The 2020 Joy Prom will have a familiar and well-known guest in attendance when it arrives on May 23.
The 2020 Joy Prom Las Vegas will have a familiar face in attendance again this year, as it was announced on Sunday, February 23 that Bark-Andre Furry will again take part.
Bark, an 11-year-old Jack Russell Terrier therapy dog who is widely considered the unofficial mascot of the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights, as well as one of the foremost hockey dogs of Dog Twitter, attended the event last year with fellow VGK superfan Goldie the Yorkie as his date.
Along with Bark’s pal Ovie the Bulldog and Ovie’s sister Saffy, who drove up from San Diego, they greeted the humans along with several superheroes and Knights cheerleaders.
Going by the social media posts afterwards, it was a good time for all in attendance. (If you’re interested, please check out our coverage in that link for more info.)
“His plus one is going to be one lucky pupper!” the Joy Prom Twitter account said in delivering this news. We very much agree.
The Joy Prom is, as the event’s website states, “a full-scale prom for teenagers and adult individuals with cognitive and physical impairments,” which “empowers guests to be confident, builds self-esteem, inspires friendships, and fosters inclusion among all in attendance.”
This is an important cause here at Dog O’Day, as several of Wesley’s siblings have special needs of various kinds.
Since Bark passed his love of baseball onto his little brother Deke, Deke will likely be soaking up the action watching the Aviators play ball with his pals Sir Winston and Sir Oliver Da Doodle, or they might turn catching a Las Vegas Lights soccer game into a post-Joy Prom tradition.
