Mealtime play-by-play is how one bored sportscaster is spending his time this week, and it’s become something of a trend.

Mealtime play-by-play is how a bored British sportscaster is spending his time cooped up with his dogs during quarantine from the coronavirus.

In a Twitter post that’s gone viral, BBC Sports rugby announcer Andrew Cotter narrates his dogs as they eat their dinner.

“I was bored,” the caption read of the Friday, March 27 event.

This news has been covered elsewhere, though we here at Dog O’Day found it through People Magazine.

The race was on between Olive and Mabel, both Labrador Retrievers. Olive is the black one, Mabel the yellow one.

Olive galloped out to an early lead right from the drop of the food dish, with Mabel steadily plowing through her meal, enjoying each morsel.

As Cotter said in the video, “Mabel seems just a little sluggish here, perhaps more was taken out of her by the warm medicine that she was given last night than we thought.”

“Riveting stuff,” WeRateDogs replied in the comments.

Fox Sports football/baseball announcer Joe Buck has also been keeping his skills sharp by narrating videos fans have sent him, including play-by-play of dogs playing tag, tug of war and fetch.

Buck regularly calls NFL games during football season and baseball throughout the summer, including the World Series.

Things like this is why we think Dog Twitter is so important right now, because it offers a distraction and smile in these trying times.

So far, the baseball pups and hockey dogs have handled the suspension/cancellation of their seasons fairly well, though they are understandably getting a little bored without their favorite teams to watch. Still, they’re learning new skills, as Captain the Caps Pup is learning how to play the card game Uno, Bark-Andre Furry is teaching Deke how to play checkers, and Sir Oliver Da Doodle is learning lacrosse.

In racing news, NASCAR Cup Series driver Alex Bowman‘s naughty brown Lab Finn caused a wreck last Sunday during the first-ever exhibition race on the iRacing video game platform when he climbed behind the wheel.

Next. Doug the Pug now hosting workout videos. dark

Til human and dog sports return, we highly welcome play-by-play of dogs living their lives, and viral videos starring dogs in general.
