Dogs of Twitter celebrate April Fool’s Day

BATH, ENGLAND - APRIL 02: Scampi chases her ball as more than 100 dachshunds and their owners, members of the Sausage Dog Club Bath, gather in front of the historic Royal Crescent in Bath's Royal Victoria Park on April 2, 2017 in Bath, England. The walk was to celebrate the canine club's second anniversary, which started by dog lover Lauren Barnes, who runs a business called Hound Bound and now has over 250 members with numbers growing. How did the Dogs of Twitter celebrate April Fool’s Day?

At Dog O’Day, we like holidays, because they’re fun. That includes April Fool’s Day.

ThanksgivingCanadian Thanksgiving, HalloweenChristmasNew Year’s, Puppy Bowl Sunday, even Valentine’s Day isn’t always so awful. Basically anything that isn’t the Fourth of July.

(Speaking of April Fool’s Day, did you fall for our prank about an Air Bud reboot starring LeBron James?)

Lots of Dogs of Twitter got into the fun to make the canine side of the Twitterverse a little more entertaining, though in some cases there was cause for the Head Tilt of Confusion.

Doug the Pug announced that he’s going to give up his career as a social media personality and focus on developing a line of canine cosmetics, specifically mutt makeup. (This almost sounds plausible. Ridiculous, certainly, but it feels like someone would try it in real life.)

The folks at the US Open, one of the four Grand Slam tournaments of pro tennis, pitched an amazing idea of ball dogs.

This honestly makes a lot of sense, because tennis is one of dogdom’s favorite human sports to play, since there’s an awful lot of balls to fetch, and that’s not only super fun, but it’s also useful, which means they are 15/10 Very Good Dogs. (Also, tennis is Wesley’s second-favorite sport to play after volleyball.) For more tennis news, see our sister site Lob and Smash.

Something was a little off with the I’ve Pet That Dog and WeRateDogs pages, as I’ve Pet That Dog started petting cats (but we love them, we have a staff cat) and WeRateDogs started rating invisible giraffes.

Starbucks went all out with their Pupbucks concept, which was unfortunately not real. This could actually work, though – drink sizes would be Lapdog, Beagle and Mastiff, and espressozooms would be Teacup sized.

The soundtrack would play hits by artists as wide-ranging as Barking for Soup, Brad Pawsley, Carrie Underwoof, Corgi B, Dogtry, Howl City, New Hound Glory and Relient K-9.

Our pal Rookie, the batdog for the Trenton Thunder, was nearly called up to the big leagues, which would have been incredible.

Unfortunately, this was a joke. He deserves it, though.

Petco announced that they would be hosting 101 Dalmatians-style pet weddings, effective almost immediately.

This would be really cute, honestly.
