Chris Evans reveals the backstory behind naming his rescue pup, Dodger

If there is one actor we love following for their dog content, it would have to be Chris Evans. Over the years, he has given us plenty of glimpses into his life with his pup, but one thing that was never quite clear was how his dog, Dodger, got his name. After all, Evans is a New Englander, and while you might think the Los Angeles Dodgers as a first thought for inspiration, that doesn’t seem likely.

However, after a lot of speculation, at least on our part, we now know exactly where Dodger’s name came from and it is epic! Especially if you are a fan of some classic animated movies.

Chris Evans tells Jimmy Kimmel where Dodger’s name came from

According to Cinemablend, during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, makes it clear that there is no way that Dodger’s name is inspired by the baseball team as that would be “sacrilegious.” Instead, the inspiration is much cuter and I am here for it.

It turns out that Chris Evans was inspired by the movie Oliver and Company! (As if I didn’t love him enough already.) That’s right, Dodger is named after the Billy Joel voiced character in the movie.

Apparently when the actor saw Dodger at the shelter for the first time, his first thought was, “Oh man, that looks like Dodger from Oliver & Company.” Once Evans decided to bring the pup home with him, he was trying to come up with the perfect name for his new fur baby, but the name Dodger just seemed to stick. He explained to Jimmy Kimmel that, “I just couldn’t get off Dodger, and I thought I’m not going to overthink this one.”

In the end, this might be the best explanation ever for how a celebrity dog was named. (Although we also have a soft spot for Henry Cavill’s dog, Kal, too.) Not only did Chris Evans admit to being a fan of Oliver and Company as a child, but the movie inspired him to name his pup after the lead dog, Dodger!

The cuteness is real in the Evans camp on this one. And while some people might be scratching their heads over this news, we are here for it.
