Dachshunds are the ultimate breed of dog. Am I biased? Absolutely. I have only ever had dachshunds so of course, I think they are the best. But could they be Santa’s reindeer? Could they pull that sleigh? Probably not. Here’s why.

They are short and small

Dachshunds aren’t exactly the tallest dogs so having them pulling a sleigh around the world may not be the best idea. Sure, they’d be flying, but with how small they are, I don’t know how much they’re going to be able to really pull the sleigh forward. Reindeer definitely have more strength.

That’s not to say dachshunds wouldn’t try their hardest to pull the sleigh (especially if you put a treat in front of them), but they probably aren’t getting too far.

Dachshunds may not be Santa’s reindeer, but we can dream

They are temperamental

Dachshunds…well, they can be a little temperamental. They probably aren’t going to do everything Santa says and at some point, they’re definitely going to do whatever they want.

It’s just their nature. They can’t help it. They think they know best. Or they do one thing and then change their mind and do the exact opposite.

They like to bite things

Put a dachshund anywhere near the presents in Santa’s sleigh and those presents are not making it under a tree in one piece. The wrapping paper is going to be torn and the box the present is in is definitely going to have a corner bitten out of it.

While the toy may still be intact, having a messed-up present is not good for Santa’s brand! His stuff has to be pristine. He spent all year working on it after all.

2 reasons we still want Dachshunds to pull the sleigh

But despite these reasons, who wouldn’t want a bunch of dachshunds pulling Santa’s sleigh? The cuteness level could never be matched. So let’s look at a few reasons why they should be given the job.

They are the cutest dogs ever

No dog matches the cuteness factor of the dachshund. They’re the champion of cuteness. Give them their trophy. Their long bodies, little feet, long noses, and precious faces all combine to make them the top dog in adorableness.

The way they waddle, jump, and run just makes them all the more lovable and sweet. I challenge you to look at a dachshund and not start smiling. It’s impossible. Santa would love them!

They are great at spreading the love

Dachshunds love to love! They’ll kiss you until they smother you, they’re master snugglers, and they’ll protect you from people or animals that are four times their size. Santa is all about love, joy, and fun, and dachshunds represent all of those things.

Sure, they might bark more than they should and they do not like strangers, but they make up for it in how much they love their humans.
