5 breeds of dog that are most likely to be dognapped

  • The French Bulldog – Considering how expensive and popular the French Bulldog is, it probably comes as no surprise that these pups are pretty much at the top of the list when it comes to being targeted by thieves. According to the Scotsman, it seems that even in the UK the French Bulldog is the target of nearly 10 percent of all dog thefts.
  • The Chihuahua – We were actually surprised to learn that the Chihuahua is also a highly sought after pup when it comes to thieves. However, the fact that they are smaller dogs likely makes them easier to steal as well. At the same time, we already know that this is a breed that is very popular with celebrities as well, which is likely a big reason why these pups end up as a target. And considering how much this breed can cost out of pocket, it also makes sense why they would be stolen as well.
  • Jack Russell Terrier – While this breed may not be as expensive as some of the other dogs on this list, that doesn’t negate the fact that they are a popular breed for thieves. It probably doesn’t help that they are a smaller dog so that makes it easier to snag them and run.
  • The Pomeranian – This is another dog breed that is popular with celebrities thanks to their smaller size, cute appearance, and their ability to be a perfect lapdog. Unfortunately, this also makes them a target for thieves. And their typical price tag doesn’t help when it comes to deterring theft.
  • Staffordshire Bull Terrier – This was a complete shock to us, but it seems that over the last few years, this breed has gained immense popularity both with dog lovers and thieves. These pups can cost you over $1000 from a breeder, which already adds to their worth when it comes to being a target for being stolen. Of course, their popularity is another reason why they are so often stolen and we hate that for us and them.

Considering how much more it costs to be a dog owner or to just purchase a puppy, it sadly makes sense that there are certain breeds that would be the target of theft. And while some of these dogs may be stolen and kept by the person who stole the pup, it seems that there has also been an increase in online dog sales, which is why so many dogs are being stolen.

With the prices associated with certain breeds, it sadly makes sense that thieves are targeting them for money making schemes.
