Hosted on Yahoo Sports, the league features site co-expert Wesley with his team Bark Attack, and contributor Adam Vosding in a team effort with his dog Holland the Pup; together they’re managing Holland’s Huddle.
Bark Attack has Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and Holland’s Huddle includes a handful of Chiefs and Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.
And since social media doggos are terrific, we have our friend PeytonReads, who is the early league favorite. Her mom Cathy has played fantasy football for many years, so she’ll be able to help the rest of us figure out how the game works (to a point; they do want to win, after all.)
Peyton offered to let Mom name her team (Cathy’s Cool Team was considered), but they’ll be known as Peyton’s Pack, and their roster includes Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz (who is married to Chicago Red Stars midfielder Kealia Watt).
Dipping into hockey fandom, Sir Winston Da Doodle decided to give this a whirl because it’s sports, and those are pawesome. He’s coaching Winston’s Team, which has hometown Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.
Ovie the Bulldog has never watched football in his life, but figured it might be fun, so with his sister Saffy Bean as assistant coach, they’re coaching the Cookie Crushers, and were graded as having the best draft in the league. They have New England Patriots QB Cam Newton and Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Rob Gronkowski on their squad.
Reaching out within the FanSided Network, Pro Golf Now site expert Chris O’Day has Real Deal O’Day, and Beyond the Flag contributor Konner Metz has Room’s Crystal Ball. O’Day’s team is stacked at running back, with Saquon Barkley, Joe Mixon and Nick Chubb. Metz’s team includes Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey and San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle.
Finally, Wesley’s college pal Cody joined as the eighth team with Cobra Kai (after the Karate Kid franchise), which features Tampa Bay QB Tom Brady and Dallas Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb. Cody has also played fantasy football before, so he’s got an edge over most of the league.
We also reached out to doggo pals Bark-Andre Furry and Deke-Henri Furry, Canadian Penny and Stoney, all of whom were unable to participate for various reasons, in addition to the staffs of our FanSided Network sister sites Bam Smack Pow and FoodSided.
As far as actual NFL teams go, we will probably be keeping half an eye on the San Francisco 49ers because of their ESA pup, in addition to the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Chargers because of their team dogs.
The projected standings are a complete mystery, as no one (that we know of) has ever played fantasy football outside of Peyton and Cody, and Wesley and Ovie’s dad haven’t watched pro football regularly in about a decade. But it should be a fun experiment, and hopefully provide a fun and welcoming community to be part of.
