In the Titans episode, Atonement, we once again watched the team fall apart, but at least we had Krypto and Gar to give us a sense of hope for the future.
Throughout the second season of Titans, we have watched the team form, share their history, and of course fall apart. And thanks to characters like Superboy, Gar, and Krypto, we have remained hopeful about the team’s future.
In the latest episode, ‘Atonement,’ Gar is left behind in Titans Tower to look after Superboy/Conner and his canine sidekick, Krypto. And not only does Gar seem to create an awesome bond with Krypto (they even share a slice of pizza at one point), but once Conner wakes up from what was essentially a coma, the trio gets even closer.
However, Gar is not equipped to handle someone like Conner, who barely knows who he is, let alone what is a threat and what’s not. And sadly, with the rest of the team dealing with their own issues and off falling apart, the world seems to come crashing down around Gar.

Seriously, if it had not been for Krypto and his ability to offer comfort and support to both Conner and Gar, this episode could have been truly hopeless. While the title of the episode, ‘Atonement’ might have seemed somewhat hopeful, the reality was far from it.
Not only did Titans decide to not give Dick Grayson a reprieve from his guilt, but even Hank and Dawn were confronted with their own past mistakes. And if ever there was a moment when we were thinking that these two are pretty hypocritical when it comes to Dick, it would have to be when they were reminded of their own involvement in the death of an innocent teenager.
This entire episode was a clear sign that the Titans are a mess and need an intervention, but luckily we had Gar and Krypto giving us all a bit of hope. Of course, with the way the episode ended, we don’t know how things will be able to turn around, especially since both Dick and Conner are now in trouble with the police and Hank is off looking for a fix.
The Titans have clearly fallen apart and not even Krypto’s presence is going to be able to save them, especially if something doesn’t change soon.
