In 2023 we decided to do a deep dive into the French Bulldog after they were named the most popular dog breed of the year. Not only did we look at a comparison between the Frenchie and a classic Bulldog, but we also did a breakdown of how much it costs to own a French Bulldog.

The real question we have is whether or not the cost of being a French Bulldog owner has gone up in 2024. when we first did our research, we found that actually getting a Frenchie would cost you between $1500 and $3500 for a puppy from a reputable breeder.

Considering the French Bulldog has retained its crown as the most popular dog breed for a second year, it may not come as a surprise to learn that the cost of puppies has also gone up. While you can still find a pure breed French Bulldog puppy for $1200 if you’re in Pennsylvania, there are also puppies going for $6000 in Pennsylvania. In Massachusetts, we actually learned of a breeder offering French Bulldog puppies for $3800. Honestly, $1200 seems like a steal for one of these puppies.

The biggest surprise when doing our research was that we actually found a puppy under $1000. Clearly that is not normal when it comes to trying to find a purebred French Bulldog puppy. But considering there were a few that came in at $995, they are out there. However on average, we saw puppies primarily in the $2500 range with a number of puppies breaking $5000 or more.

It will likely come as no surprise to realize that the cost of the puppy will be dependent upon the breeder as well as your location and their location. French Bulldog puppies clearly command impressive prices from breeders, but they can also be expensive when adopted from shelters. While some shelters and rescues might not up-charge for a Frenchie, we have definitely seen this particular breed going for up to $500 as well.

So what does this mean for the cost of a French Bulldog in 2024? Well, if you’re looking for a puppy, you could see prices ranging between $1000 and $6000 for a purebred from a breeder. Obviously, as they get older, they do reduce in price, but considering even shelters are charging a bit more for the breed, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re going to save a ton by choosing an older dog.

Editor’s Note: We are not promoting getting a puppy from a breeder, as there are many dogs and puppies sitting in shelters and rescues waiting for their forever homes. However, that does not negate the fact that people want to know how much puppies might cost them from a breeder.
