When it comes to superheroes, we all know Superman and each year, it feels like Superman gets a new actor or look. With James Gunn taking over DC, things are looking different than last year or the year before.

In particular, we're getting a new Superman movie coming out in 2025. One aspect Gunn has focused on with Superman is his sidekick aka Krypto. Krypto is Superman's dog and if you watched the trailer, you saw a glimpse of Krypto.

In speaking about Krypto, James Gunn said something interesting. As shared via Deadline, Gunn was quoted as saying: "His relationship with Krypto is complicated. He’s not nearly the best dog. There’s a lot more to Krypto than you see in this trailer." Here at Dog o' Day, we were already curious about Krypto's role, but this feels like something entirely different.

Not only does it beg the question of what role Krypto will have, but if Krypto will be a good boy or even, a super dog as we've come to know him. Regardless, there is already plenty of hype around this movie with or without the different takes on Krypto's role.

Krypto has appeared in many great projects in his own right.

While many think of Krypto and Superman as a dynamic duo, Krypto has had a budding career without the aid of his superhero pal. Aside from getting ready to make his live-action movie debut with the new Superman, Krypto has been featured in some of DC's more recent projects. While the quality of the projects can be argued, a few are worth mentioning.

Looking back at 2023, Krypto appeared with Scooby-Doo in a direct-to-video film. Entitled Scooby-Doo! and Krypto, Too!, the film follows Scooby and Krypto as they team up to deal with Metropolis since the Justice League has essentially vanished. Similar to some of DC's other animated projects, this one almost wasn't released until it was leaked online so Warner Bros had no choice but to release it.

Another recent film role for Krypto was 2022's DC League of Super-Pets. Krypto becomes his own hero when he's tasked with saving his heroic best friend: Superman. Krypto is easily the star of this film and given how much hype it's gotten, it makes sense. It's also worth mentioning that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson did Krypto's voice. I would have never imagined Krypto's voice sounding like that but here we are.

Ultimately, Krypto has had a long and storied history when it comes to his TV and movie roles. The 2025 Superman release will hopefully give us even more insight into the already lovable character.
