When looking at how culture shifts, there's one thing we all want, or at least, consider getting at one point, a pet. Thankfully, this new study put that idea into a bit more perspective, especially when it comes to UK pet parents.

The article begins by talking about the UK's love for dogs. This is something most know about as we have such staples as 101 Dalmatians and the Queen's love for her Corgis. Those are two massively popular examples, but ones many Americans would at least know of.

However, things are shifting across the pond and cats are in. This insight comes from Jollyes which is a pet store chain based in the UK. If anyone would know about this, it would be them and one thing of note is that more UK residents are opting to go for a cat rather than a dog which isn't shocking.

The most interesting thing is that it relates to Taylor Swift in a big way, which is something the company points out: "The chain says celebrity cat lovers such as Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Kate Beckinsale and Miley Cyrus are driving the trend." That really does make sense, given how popular all of these people mentioned are, with Taylor Swift being the biggest of the bunch.

Taylor Swift is even shifting pet trends in the UK

While Taylor Swift plays a role in those looking to get a cat, there are a few more reasons why younger people are preferring cats to dogs. Most notably, cats are incredibly low-maintenance. Given how temperamental cats can be, they might want to be left alone for hours before coming up to want to snuggle with you. It's honestly all on their own terms.

Most pet parents do end up grabbing some extra things for their kitties, but giving a cat some food, water, and some toys will keep them entertained for days. Even getting a package with a cardboard box is enough to get them excited. Jollyes even expanded on this idea by saying, "Jollyes, which is now expanding its cat range, believes the rise is also being driven by a preference for smaller pets and the ease of looking after a cat compared with the higher maintenance of a dog." Ultimately, sometimes smaller is better.

Taylor Swift has already changed so many trends, so shifting things for pet parents is just another one of her achievements. With Swift laying low, we can only hope that she pops up and shares some pics of her favorite feline friends before too long. Either way, this study was too fun not to share.
