2024 was an odd year to be a Scooby-Doo fan

Jinkies! Where do we even start with Scooby-Doo and 2024

Every year, it's nice to go back and reflect on what happened. For 2024, we're looking back at the Scooby-Doo franchise.

Most years, we can look back and talk about a direct-to-video film or a new show that premiered when discussing the franchise. This year though, it feels like a damper was put on the Scooby-Doo franchise more than ever.

The sad news to report is that there were no new Scooby-Doo films released in 2024. This is something fans have been dreading, as there have always been new Scooby-Doo direct-to-video titles being released. Even so, 2024 marked a weird year no matter which version of Scooby-Doo is your favorite.

Technically if we're talking about TV shows, there was one entry to the Scooby-Doo franchise which was Velma. Frankly, this one shouldn't even be counted among the rest of the amazing Scooby-Doo content out there, yet it was the only Scooby-Doo related TV series we got in 2024.

2024 proved to be a weird year for Scooby-Doo fans.

Given all the vitriol shared about Velma, the show aired season 2 without much excitement from fans and even, had a Halloween special. After that point, it was finally announced that the show was canceled which was something all of us had been hoping for. However, it does leave things in a somewhat bleak place.

The one bright spot for 2024 was the announcement of Go-Go Mystery Machine. A Scooby-Doo anime, this one is set to follow Shaggy and Scooby-Doo in Japan as they're solving mysteries and enjoying all the tasty cuisine the country has to offer. While it's unclear if we'll see Fred, Daphne and Velma, this is something much more exciting than anything Velma was going to offer.

Given Warner Brothers tendency to cancel finished projects or projects that are deemed "unsalvageable," it's unclear when we'll be getting more Scooby-Doo content. However, I'm crossing my fingers that 2025 will give us more than just Go-Go Mystery Machine, if the show is even released in 2025.

No matter, there is plenty of solid Scooby-Doo content out there to rewatch if you're missing your favorite pup.
