Will Garfield end up on the Fandoms of the Year list for 2024?

The Fandoms of the Year list is full of so many great picks but looking ahead to 2024, could we see Garfield make the list?

When most people think of Garfield, it’s mostly about the Bill Murray film or the animated series. You might even think of the comic strip started by Jim Davis. It’s truly a mixed bag, knowing the first time you’ve seen the character.

Regardless with The Garfield Movie hitting theaters in 2024, could we see Garfield make his way onto the Fandoms of the Year list? The film will hit theaters in May 2024 and that’s the ultimate sweet spot to prove if the fandom will make it or not.

Whether you’re excited about the movie or not, there is no denying that the movie will have a huge impact on pop culture next year.

 What are the chances Garfield will end up on the 2024 FOTY list?

As with other popular franchises featuring our favorite characters, this is always a mixed bag. As iconic as the fandom is, is it too timeless to end up on the list? While I’ve already focused on that for Peanuts and Scooby-Doo, Garfield feels like a special case as he doesn’t pop up nearly as much as the other two franchises.

While the orange cat is still a popular character, it doesn’t feel like he has nearly as many fans as Peanuts or Scooby-Doo. With that being said, I do think the popularity of The Garfield Movie is enough to make or break his place on the list. If it flops, I doubt we’ll see it on the list but if it ends up doing well and has a great merch line, there’s a possibility.

Honestly, it’s really up to the creators of the list and if they feel like Garfield had enough of an impact. I’ll put Garfield firmly in the “maybe” category for now. We’ll have to see where the lasagna falls in 2024. Until then, you can watch the trailer for The Garfield Movie before the movie releases on May 24th, 2024.
