There are some things that are synonymous with Thanksgiving, and we are not talking about the turkey. One of those things is the National Dog Show.
Since 1933, the National Dog Show has been hosted every year. It is an AKC sanctioned event that only allows purebred dogs to show. And with 212 breeds recognized by the AKC, there are a lot of dogs that can show off their amazing abilities and presentation for the judges and the viewers.
Of course, if you know anything about dog shows, then you know that you won’t see all 212 breeds on your TV, and honestly, you won’t even see all of the dogs that are entered in the competition. However, on November 23 after the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, we can all tune in to figure out which dog will earn the top honor of Best in Show. (And will it be a French Bulldog again?)
The real question we have is, when and where are we tuning in.
Where and when to watch the National Dog Show on Thanksgiving Day and beyond
Perhaps unsurprisingly, once again, the dog show will be airing on NBC. This makes it easy for all of us to tune in for the competition.
According to NBC Sports,
"Coverage of the National Dog Show begins on Thursday, November 23 at 12 p.m. local time and runs until 2 p.m., covering group and Best in Show judging. The National Dog Show can also be streamed on Peacock and here on NBCSports.com and on the NBC Sports app at 12 p.m. ET on Thanksgiving."
With the dog show streaming on Peacock, as well as the NBC sports app and the nbcsports.com website, it’s easy to watch all the action you may have missed on Thanksgiving, even after the event is over. And that makes perfect sense as some of us don’t actually watch the dog show on Thanksgiving. Some of us tune in over the weekend instead. Last year they even did a re-broadcast of the National Dog Show that allowed us to watch it over the weekend without needing to stream the competition.
Although the programming only lets us watch the group competition and the crowning of best in show, this is a tradition that we love to see continue. And we are excited for a new dog to be crowned as the Best in Show for 2023.
Which dog breed do you think will end up taking the top prize? Do you think we may have a repeat performance? Let’s discuss on social media.
