Why is there a rise in cat cafes being opened in 2023?

Trends can come and go yet some things will always be trendy and one of the recent trends for kitty lovers is cat cafes.

If you don’t know what they are, it’s pretty self-explanatory. It’s essentially a cafe where you can hang out with cats. Sometimes, they have their own food while sometimes, they end up having food brought in.

Either way, it’s a way for people who either can’t have a cat or want to just play with cats to be able to do that. Since I have cats, I’ve never been to one and there’s also the fact that there isn’t a cat cafe near me.

However, it seems like there is a rise in cat cafes opening all over the United States, but why do we see the sudden boom in cat cafes being opened?

Why are we seeing more cat cafes being opened in 2023 than ever before?

As I said, I’ve never personally been to a cat cafe but I get the gist of it. It’s essentially the same thing as a normal cafe with the addition of cats. To me though, it feel like the rise in seeing a lot of different cities and states open cat cafes is a more broader topic than you might imagine.

I feel like the major reason we’re seeing the rise of cat cafes is because people are looking for that serotonin boost they might not get elsewhere. There is something so delightful about hanging out with a cat. Even if it’s not your own cat, it’s nice to be able to pet, play and snuggle especially if you’re either living alone or live in a place that doesn’t allow cats.

Additionally, it feels like the rising cost of everything including living doesn’t allow people to adopt a cat as easily they may have in the past. There always tends to be an extra fee for a pet or an addition to the monthly rent that people can’t afford. It’s essentially a lose-lose for those looking to own a cat but can’t afford the extra expense.

Not being able to afford that expense goes hand-in-hand with less cats being adopted so they could end up going to a cat cafe. While it doesn’t guarantee an adoption for those cats, it does give them a much better chance. As someone who has adopted all of their cats, I adore this idea as I feel like some cats won’t have that chance unless they’re in a cat cafe.

Whether you’re a cat owner or a frequent cat cafe visitor, I’d like to know what you think. Why do you think there’s a rise in cat cafes being opened in the US? Is it because people love cats or another reason?
