Ever wonder just how tall the tallest dog in the world is? Is this dog who holds a Guinness World record still alive and walking around?
We might have a certain idea of what dog breed holds this record, and if you’re sitting at home thinking of a Great Dane, then *ding, ding, ding* you are correct! His name is Freddy, and we’ll talk more about him just a little bit later.
Who holds the Guinness World Record for the World’s Tallest (Living) Dog (Male)!? What’s this Freddy all about?!
Back in 2016, the Guinness World Record for the World’s Tallest Dog was announced and awarded to (at that time) a three-year old Great Dane pup named Freddy. This gentle giant quickly became an international superstar gaining very much attention from dog lovers and records followers all over the world.
Ever wonder just how these dogs’ heights are measured? Well, according to sources close to the Guinness Book of World Records themselves, each dog is measured from foot to withers. For this, being measured from foot to withers means the dog’s area just above the shoulder(s).
How tall is Freddy? Well, folks, from foot to withers, Mr. Big Boy measures at a towering 103.5 centimeters – or 3 feet 4 inches. When standing on his hind legs, however, Freddy measures at an even more towering 226 centimeters – or 7 feet 5.5 inches. Can you just imagine standing next to him? The tallest friend I have in my own personal life (shoutout to you, Will Jardell) is 6 foot 6 inches (without those fabulous heels); even someone with height like him would feel small standing next to Freddy on his hind legs! Crazy!
Is Freddy, the Guinness World Record for the World’s Tallest (Living) Dog (Male), still alive?
Well, folks, I’ve got some sad, sad news for you. Unfortunately, at just eight and a half years old, back in or around February of 2021, Freddy passed away.
We sincerely hope that Freddy’s owners find peace knowing that he is running around just over the Rainbow Bridge taunting all of the other pups with his towering, teddy-bear-like height!
