In episode 2 of Only Murders in the Building, our amateur sleuths dig deeper into the murder mystery they are trying to solve. And that means learning, “Who Is Tim Kono?

The problem with this question, is that it seems that Tim Kono is not a beloved resident of the Arconia. Instead, he is seen as more of a villain and that means that when the residents gather to pay tribute to their deceased neighbor, it turns into more of a roast of Tim over a memorial.

And that’s not even the end of the story. Instead of paying tribute to Tim Kono and his death, the entire memorial shifts focus to Evelyn the cat. That’s right, a memorial for Tim became a memorial for a cat.

Tim Kono’s memorial becomes a tribute to a cat on Only Murders in the Building episode 2

It seems that on the same night that Tim was murdered in his apartment, Evelyn also died. And during the memorial, we learn that Evelyn is the same cat we saw in the hallway when Tim got out of the elevator in the first episode.

This is a cat who got around. She was welcome in basically everyone’s apartment, and based on what Oliver, Charles, and Mabel discovered in Tim’s apartment, it looks/sounds like Evelyn was also in that apartment the night that the murder happened. After all, why else would there be paw prints in the blood on the floor?

All of this raises the question of how did Evelyn die? Was she a victim of whoever killed Tim Kono? The reason we ask is because it seems awfully suspicious that the cat we saw alive in well in episode 1 died on the same night as Tim was murdered. And not only that, but it seems pretty obvious that the cat was also in the apartment when the murder happened (or at the very least after it happened).

Evelyn the cat clearly stole the show (or the memorial) in “Who Is Tim Kono?” and that just feels fitting after the premiere where Winnie the Bulldog was a scene stealer as well.
