On August 29, news broke that Ed Asner had passed away at the age of 91. And Disney quickly took to social media to pay tribute to their Carl Fredricksen.

In a post shared across the Disney social media accounts, including on the Disney Plus socials, they chose to honor the man who was the voice of Carl from the Disney/Pixar movie UP! and the eventual owner of our favorite animated pup, Dug.

Considering Ed Asner is a part of the upcoming Disney Plus series, Dug Days, which is set to begin streaming on September 1, it makes sense that in their tribute they would use a picture of Carl from the UP! movie. The image is of course the one where he is sitting in the chair next to Ellie’s with their picture book in his lap.

In the movie itself, that was always one of the more iconic and even heartbreaking images. And in saying goodbye to the legendary actor, it makes sense that they would choose this as part of their tribute.

For the caption attached to the UP! still, Disney explained that Ed Asner was the living embodiment of their Carl, a man who was loving and kind, even if their veneer may have been that of a grouch.

Considering we will be listening to Asner as Carl once Dug Days begins streaming on Disney Plus, it is bittersweet to be saying goodbye just a few days before the premiere. And yet, it feels like this may just be the perfect tribute and goodbye, as we get one last chance to enjoy Carl, Dug, and Russell together again.
