On July 27, Chrissy Teigen introduced her social media followers to the newest addition to her family – a Basset Hound puppy named Pearl. But PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) isn’t happy.

While it might be happy news for the Teigen and Legend household, PETA has something to say about this puppy adoption. And they did not hold back.

In a statement issued on the PETA website by the Senior Director of the organization, Stephanie Bell, they explained their disappointment in the television personality and model.

PETA’s statement on Chrissy Teigen adopting a purebred Basset Hound puppy

According to the statement,

"It’s disappointing that Chrissy Teigen threw away an opportunity to show a little compassion by opening her heart and her Beverly Hills mansion to a rescued dog when millions of animals are waiting in shelters and dying for the lack of loving homes."

On the one hand, we completely get where PETA is coming from with this statement. We love when celebrities adopt shelter animals (dogs and cats alike). And there are plenty of celebs who have shared their adoption stories, from Chris Evans to Chrishell Stause, there have been plenty of “adopt don’t shop” tales and pups.

On the other hand, it is sad to see the happiness of a new addition to the Teigen and Legend household diminished. (Also, why didn’t we call out John Legend? He is clearly an adult in the family too and has a picture with the puppy. At this point it is like we are just looking for ways to pile on Chrissy Teigen.)

We are all about adopting shelter animals, but we hate to take away from the joy of a new addition to a family. All fuzzy creatures deserve a home, and whether it was Chrissy Teigen or someone else, that Basset Hound puppy was bound to go somewhere, and we would rather see little Pearl end up with a celeb like Teigen than in a shelter.
