A new Cruella poster puts Emma Stone in the spotlight.

A new Cruella poster puts Emma Stone in the spotlight, which it should, of course, as she steps into the role of one of the most villainous Disney characters of all time: 101 Dalmatians’ Cruella de Vil.

The first images drew mixed results when they released in August last year, and Stone dove deep into the details of the role down to a specific perfume (unknown if it smelled of pepper, Cruella De Vil’s signature scent in Dodie Smith’s novel).

Slated for a May 28, 2021 release date in theaters, it is currently unknown whether this will be delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, though hopefully it will be safe to return to movie theaters by then.

This may not be an official poster, as we spotted it on a Facebook page called Alternative Disney, which often features fan art. However, they credited the image to Disnerds, which could mean that it’s legit.

The new Cruella poster features Stone centered on a misty light-colored background in a velvety black dress with blood-red lipstick and gloves. Big Ben is lurking to her right in the background, with “Coming Soon” looming underneath the title.

“It’s a different ball game,” Stone told Variety about the film, which takes place in 1970s London with a punk=rock aesthetic, and whose cast also features Emma Thompson (Harry Potter series, Saving Mr Banks, Brave) as a Baroness, according to IMDB, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste (A Dog’s Purpose, The Good Place) in an unknown role.

Stone hasn’t appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC Extended Universe or Star Wars, but she does have an incredible range, from the high school adaptation of classic literature in Easy A to the superhero genre in the Amazing Spider-Man films and parody Birdman with Michael Keaton as her dad, to frustrated journalist in The Help and a world-weary zombie hunter in the Zombieland films.

While Glenn Close will be big shoes to fill as her live-action predecessor in the role, Stone’s young version of Cruella should be very much worth watching.
