Cruella is expanding their cast with the addition of a Why Women Kill star, as Kirby Howell-Baptiste joins Emma Stone in the live action film.

It looks like the live action prequel to 101 Dalmatians is truly coming together, as Cruella has a new addition to the cast. Kirby Howell-Baptiste, one of the stars of Why Women Kill, is set to join Emma Stone and Emma Thompson in the upcoming Disney movie.

According to Variety, the news of Howell-Baptiste joining the Cruella cast was announced on Sept. 24. At this time, there is no word on what character the actress will be playing in the film or whether she is an entirely new character being added to the film. However, we admit to being excited by the addition and we can’t wait to learn more about who she will be playing, and how it has an impact on our leading lady, played by Stone.

Considering this is a prequel to 101 Dalmatians, it makes sense that we would be introduced to a number of new characters that we are not familiar with already. At the same time, we do know that at least two more characters from the original story will be introduced in the prequel, Horace and Jasper, the two henchmen who were helping Cruella de Vil kidnap puppies in the original movie.

While 101 Dalmatians was all about de Vil’s obsession with Dalmatians and their spots, with an eye towards getting their fur and turning it into a fur coat, we actually don’t know how the prequel will frame the villain’s story this time around. It is entirely possible that she won’t be quite as obsessed with the pups as she was in the original movie, although considering what we have seen so far, the imagery tells a different story. At the very least, the first look image made it clear that she already has a thing for the pups.

With the addition of Kirby Howell-Baptiste, it seems as if Cruella‘s live action adventure is coming together, even if we still have quite some time to wait before it hits the big screen. We won’t get the chance to see how this prequel shines a new light on the puppy stealing villain until Dec. 23, 2020, but until then, at least we have an idea of who will be in the movie and of course the fact that it is set to be a bit of a punk rock style origin story.
