Air Bud’s Twitter is something special, too.
Air Bud’s Twitter account is just as impressive as Buddy’s skill on the basketball or beach volleyball courts, the football or soccer fields, or the baseball diamond.
The character of Buddy originated with a real Golden Retriever rescue dog named Buddy, who quickly learned how to play hockey, which was demonstrated during an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman. He even made a cameo appearance as Comet on Full House in the season 8 episode “Air Jesse,” where NBA Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar taught Jesse (John Stamos) how to shoot a basket.
His story was adapted into the 1997 movie Air Bud, which starred the actual Buddy and Kevin Zegers as his owner Josh Framm. Together they make the basketball team at Fernfield Middle School as they adapt to a new living situation (Josh moving to Washington State from Virginia, Buddy from escaping an abusive former owner).
The success of Air Bud led to four true sequels – Air Bud: Golden Receiver, Air Bud; World Pup, Air Bud: Seventh Inning Fetch and Air Bud Spikes Back – and the creation of a wide-ranging expanded Air Bud Universe, which consists of a trilogy of Christmas-themed movies, a trilogy of canine singing show movies, a Disney Channel TV series, and seven straight-to-DVD movies featuring his talking puppies.
The character’s contributions to Dog Twitter usually consist of commenting on whatever’s happening in the culture at the moment, in an understated way that’s just perfect.
For example, about the coronavirus pandemic and lockdowns ending:
Or his take on the “Dear men, why can’t you look like this?” theme:
Since there are currently little live sports on TV (the NBA Finals would be happening right now, for one thing), Air Bud’s Twitter is a nice substitute.
Air Bud’s Twitter handle is @AirBud, and he’s on Instagram, too, at @AirBudOfficial. Dog O’Day is also on Instagram at @DogODayFS, and we’re also on Facebook at Daily Dog.
