It’s time for an update on the Gone Puck Wild fantasy hockey league.

As a way to support our FanSided Network sister site Gone Puck Wild, who cover the NHL’s Minnesota Wild, we here at Dog O’Day were represented in the Gone Puck Wild fantasy hockey league this season through Wesley’s team Bark Attack.

The regular season just concluded with Week 21, where Bark Attack beat Jackson’s Team 281..50-247.90, Small Body of Water thumped The King of Norway 331.50-148..30, Pooks United topped We Got the Cup 377.30-214.80, and Northern Lights defeated the Ice Horses 285.50-195.50.

In the standings, Small Body of Water (run by GPW Site Expert Lake Martin) crushed the rest of the league with a 16-5 record, followed by Pooks United and Northern Lights (run by Elan and Erik, respectively) at 14-7.. In fourth place was a chick named Tyler, whose Ice Horses battled through a plague of injuries all season to finish at 11-10.

Bark Attack’s season was derailed somewhat by computer issues, leaving me unable to manage my squad for nearly two months, but a hot streak late in the season resulted in a 9-12 record, good for fifth place. Taking the final playoff spot in sixth was Jackson’s Team, run by Jackson, at 7-14.

The league commissioner, former GPW site expert Brennen Rupp, also finished 7-14, and in the cellar was Jason’s We Got the Cup at 6-15 (he must be a Blues fan).

As far as we know, Lake and Brennen are the only other FanSiders who participated, though if you are a FanSider, we apawlogize for the omission.

Bark Attack’s roster was built with hockey dogs in mind, so players from Bolt and Holland the Pup‘s Tampa Bay Lightning, Bark-Andre and Deke-Henri Furry‘s Vegas Golden Knights, and Captain and Ovie the Bulldog‘s Washington Capitals figured prominently.

By the close of the season, the roster included the Caps’ center, goalie and right winger Nicklas Backstrom, Braden Holtby and TJ Oshie, the Knights’ C Jonathan Marchessault, RW Reilly Smith and G Marc-Andre Fleury, the Chicago Blackhawks’ Alex DeBrincat, the Vancouver Canucks‘ JT Miller, the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Kevin Shattenkirk, the New York Rangers’ Ryan Strome, the St Louis Blues’ Alex Pietrangelo, the New York Islanders’ Anders Lee and the Colorado Avalanche’s Ryan Graves.

Of players from teams without an obvious canine connection, there are also the Boston Bruins’ Charlie McAvoy, the Toronto Maple Leafs’ Austen Matthews, and the Winnipeg Jets’ Neal Pionk.

The Gone Puck Wild fantasy hockey league has been a fun thing to try, and we hope it or something similar will continue next year.
