Every year we come up with our New Year’s resolutions for ourselves. But what about our pets? PetSmart wants to help with some suggestions.

It’s not just a New Year that is around the corner, it is also a new decade. And PetSmart wants to help make 2020 a fresh and healthy start for your pet.

So, how is PetSmart planning to do this? Well, they have created some resolutions with your pets in mind. In a press release shared on Dec. 26, the pet store shared some tips that they think will help you and your animals kick off 2020 in the best way possible.

The first resolution or tip offered by PetSmart’s Dr. Jennifer Freeman, DVM, the resident vet and expert in pet care, was to have your animal exercise regularly. (It’s not just us who need exercise.)

While it is important to consider factors like age and breed of your animal, every pet needs regular exercise. Dogs in particular need approximately 30 minutes per day of real physical activity. So whether this means taking them for a walk, letting them run around at the park, or tossing a ball or stick, it is important that your pup is getting their exercise in.

And if you need an indoor option for your pup, you might want to consider PetSmart’s Doggie Day Camp, which will give them the exercise, attention, and fun they need. Of course, you will need to check your local store to see if this is being offered near you.

The second resolution or tip offered by Freeman is to get your animal groomed on a regular basis. This is important for dogs because it can help prevent many common problems. Everything from skin irritation, excessive shedding, toenails that get too long, can all be prevented by proper grooming.

And the third resolution from PetSmart is choosing the right food. This is something we have discussed in the past and will likely write about again. After all, we are always paying attention to what we eat, so we should be doing the same for our dogs. Know what is in your dog’s food and make sure that you are choosing the nutrition that they need to keep them healthy.

What do you think of PetSmart’s resolutions for pet owners and their pets? Are there any tips or resolutions you might add to this list? Tell us what you think in the comments.
