Rover has introduced a helpful dog breed selector tool to their website.

One of the best-known companies for dog-walking and pet-sitting, Rover, has just introduced a new dog breed selector tool for potential pet pawrents looking for more information about a potential new family member.

It takes into consideration common breed characteristics and how they might fit into your lifestyle, with questions like “How active do you want to be with your dog?” and “How much training will your new dog need?’

The Rover dog breed selector user experience functions similarly to a typical BuzzFeed quiz, so it’s very easy to use.

The quiz, which consists of 11 questions, also takes into consideration the ideal size, current living conditions, and presence of other pets and/or children.

When testing this quiz for this article, I got three possible answers, all with a 92 percent predicted match: Puggle (Beagle/Pug mix), Rat Terrier and Miniature Schnauzer. When taking the test previously, the three options I got were Puggle, Cavapoo (Poodle/Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix) and something else.

The ideal breed for you and your family is hard to decide on, as there are many considerations to evaluate before diving into the commitment of a new family member. Puppy or senior dog? From a respected breeder or the neighbors?  Maybe even a rescue dog from a shelter? Are there allergies to take into consideration?

Then, of course, there are potty training and learning to sit, along with the very important vaccinations (some of which can be done at home if you’re the brave and/or adventurous type).

Figuring out what pet food labels mean and whether or not to dabble in a raw diet is also something to figure out, in addition to which human treats from HalloweenSt Patrick’s Day, and Thanksgiving should be kept out of dog reach.

Finally, there is the most fun (and most daunting) part – what to call him or her? One of the most popular 2017 or 2018 names? If you go with a theme, should it be foodDisneyGame of ThronesHarry Potter or pop culture in general? (As you might be able to tell, the Dog O’Day staff takes naming VERY SERIOUSLY.)

We hope Rover’s dog breed selector tool is a good resource for potential pawrents, and if you become a super-obsessed Dog Mom or Dad, don’t worry – you’re in good company!
