Justin Theroux’s dog stars alongside her dad in the upcoming 2019 Lady and the Tramp.
Justin Theroux’s dog Kuma is starring alongside her dad in the upcoming 2019 Lady and the Tramp.
Theroux, who is best known for his recurring role as the super-cool lawyer Justin Anderson on Parks and Recreation, is voicing the Tramp in the upcoming Disney Plus remake. The actual canine actor playing the role is an Arizona rescue dog named Monte.
This news was announced on Theroux’s Instagram from Kona’s perspective on their last day of filming, Tuesday, September 3.
“This part rrrrreally took it out of me, but I’m VERY excited to show you all my hard work,” Kona stated.
During casting she was playing Pound Dog No. 1, though by the time the credits roll her character will have an actual name.
She also added that she is a Method actor, noting that that probably caused some problems on the set, thanking the crew for putting up with her antics.
(Method acting means that the actor or actress takes on the attitude of the character at all times on set; Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight is an extreme example.)
“I’m gonna take a week off to reconnect with myself before I start the Oscar/awards push or whatever, blah blah…” Kuma said, wrapping up her grand awards speech imitation.
Kuma was a rescue dog saved from Hurricane Harvey, according to People Magazine. She’s a Pit Bull of some kind, and her name means “bear” in Japanese.
Theroux’s biggest role was as the main antagonist Seamus O’Grady in Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, and he was married to Friends star Jennifer Aniston at one point. He also has small roles in both Zoolander movies, a cameo as the Master Codebreaker in Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, and was a screenwriter of Iron Man 2.
Lady and the Tramp will release when Disney Plus officially launches on November 12. Thor: Ragnarok’s Tessa Thompson will voice Lady, with Sam Elliott voicing family friend Trusty the Bloodhound.
