Celebs give pups spotlight on National Dog Day weekend
Celebrities gave their doggos the spotlight during National Dog Day weekend.
Celebrities love their dogs just as much as everyone else, and they proved it during National Dog Day weekend, ahead of the big day itself, Monday, August 26.
Even CNN is getting into the spirit of the holiday with their breakdown of candidates for First Dog (we did one of those earlier this summer).
There was a lot of canine cuddles as marvelous mutts sometimes had a little too much fun, and sometimes kept their people out of trouble.
For Rob Lowe and his family, it was a sad weekend, as their beloved dog David crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Among the grouchy complainer’s favorite pastimes were swimming, surfing and protecting the yard from rabbit invasions.
Lowe is best known for his roles of Sam Seaborn of The West Wing and Chris Traeger on Parks and Recreation, though he was also part of the Brat Pack in the 1980s and appeared in The Outsiders and St Elmo’s Fire, among other movies.
His son Johnny was comforted by comforted by remaining dog Gilbert, but still, that ache is very hard to deal with, and those scars take a while to heal.
Our condolences to the family.
Reese Witherspoon’s blue-eyed Bulldog Lou chomped the pool float as a weekend snack.
Witherspoon is best known for her role of Elle Woods in the Legally Blonde movies, always accompanied by her pocket Chihuahua Bruiser. She’s also starred in the drama Pleasantville, beloved romcom Sweet Home Alabama and through voice acting, Monsters Vs Aliens and Sing.
Justin Theroux is best known for the recurring role of super-cool lawyer Justin Anderson in Parks and Rec’s second season, ,but he’ll provide the voice of the Tramp in the upcoming Lady and the Tramp coming in November to Disney Plus.
Here Theroux brags about the Tramp himself, a rescue dog from Arizona named Monte (it’s an easy name to misspell). His own dog Kuma has a bit part in the film as well.
Big Brother contestant Winston Hines had a sober reminder of the responsibility that comes with dog ownership.
Captain America himself, Chris Evans, often posts about his dog Dodger on his Twitter, and of course National Dog Day was a great excuse to share a shot of a good cuddle sesh.
Other non-MCU projects Evans has been involved in include the heist movie The Perfect Score, Fantastic Four and the sci-fi Snowpiercer.
National Dog Day weekend went well, with Philadelphia Phillies first baseman/left fielder Rhys Hoskins wearing canine-themed cleats during Player’s Weekend, featuring his dog Rookie, who attended Spring Training earlier this year..
We think all doggos, whether famous or not, should be very spoiled today.
There are numerous National Dog Day deals going on today, including food at Del Taco and canine clothing at several stores. How are you and your doggos celebrating?
