Disney has given us our first look at Emma Stone as Cruella de Vil in the upcoming live-action prequel. And Twitter has mixed reactions.

We finally have our first look at Emma Stone as the iconic Disney villainess, Cruella de Vil. And while we are certainly excited for this new look at the villain obsessed with Dalmatians, it seems as if the first image from the movie is garnering mixed reactions from Twitter users.

As Buzzfeed points out, this live-action prequel is set in the 1970s and will be giving us a gothic meets glam Cruella. Considering this is an origin story, it is unlikely that we will see the character turning Dalmatians into coats, however, the hope is that we will in fact learn what inspired de Vil’s obsession with these gorgeous pups.

While there is certainly some excitement for those of us who are fans of 101 Dalmatians, there is also some concern over the direction the story will take, and even Stone’s take on the iconic villain. Of course, considering what Disney was able to do with Maleficent, we have hope that the House of Mouse will be able to give us a story that really does explore what led to Cruella de Vil’s descent into villainy.

Over on Twitter, people were quick to express their own thoughts on Emma Stone as Cruella, and what they think of this very first look. Perhaps unsurprisingly, there were mixed reactions, with some people loving the thought of the actress taking on the iconic role, while others were less than impressed with not only the casting, but also the image shared.

One user seemed particularly upset over the origin story because of their appreciation for both the classic animated movie and Glenn Close‘s take on the character.

Another user pointed out that not every villain should be getting an origin story. And while we are excited to see Cruella’s origins revealed, we can’t help but agree a bit with their assessment.

Still, another Twitter user expressed their lack of interest in learning about someone who is ultimately nothing more than a puppy killer. Instead, they seem to believe that not only is Cruella evil, but her story is unlikely to be interesting.

However, while there were some Twitter users that were less than impressed with this new take on Cruella de Vil, there were also people here for this new look and Emma Stone as the iconic villain.

And then there is this user sharing their love of Stone and this first look at the character.

Can we just appreciate this Twitter user who took advantage of the animated movie’s name in order to express their excitement?

Honestly, we can appreciate the fact that Twitter users are torn over this first look at Cruella. After all, with only a single image to go off of, we don’t really know how this story will come together or how they will make the character both sympathetic and villainous.

Even as we love both the original animated movie and Emma Stone, we are waiting for the first trailer of Cruella before we go all in on the excitement. For now though, I am slightly obsessed over this look and the fact that we already have a few dogs to appreciate.
