Are you looking for a new pup to bring home? Do you live in the Dallas area? Then you may want to check out Dallas Animal Services this summer.

When it comes to finding forever homes for some animals, it can actually be hard to match pets up with new potential parents. At times there are major influxes of dogs that come into a shelter, leading to some pups going unadopted for weeks and even months. But Dallas Animal Services looks to change that with their free adoptions.

While not all of the animals that come through the doors of Dallas Animal Services will be up for adoption free of charge, if a dog (or cat) is in the shelter for over two weeks, their adoption fees are actually waived.

According to the website for the Dallas Animal Services, any animal that spends more than two weeks with them is considered to be a “long term” resident. And in order to bring more attention to these adoptable pets, “DAS waives the adoption on all pets that have been available for adoption for more than two weeks.” (Which not only makes sense, but is actually a great incentive to adopt older pups who might sit there waiting for a new home.)

Although it may seem like they are putting some type of time frame on these animals, the reality is that they are trying to help these dogs and cats find an actual home outside of the shelter. As they point out, the longer these animals are in the shelter, the more likely they are to get sick and stressed out. Stressed out animals are certainly not a good thing, and in an effort to combat this, Dallas Animal Services hopes that waiving those adoption fees will increase the likelihood of finding these fur babies forever homes.

When you visit the shelter, animals that have had their adoption fees waived will have a notation on their kennel card that proclaims “Free Adoption.” And while you want to find the perfect fit for yourself and your family, why not check out those pups that have been waiting around a bit longer? You never know which furry friend will capture your heart.

And these long-term resident adoption fee waivers are not the only way that Dallas Animal Services is looking to help dogs find their forever homes. They are even doing, “$1 Dog Wednesdays” which is exactly what it sounds like – a chance to adopt a dog over 6 months for just $1 on Wednesdays in July.

This dog day special is apparently taking place at two of their shelter locations, which can be found on their website. (Just look for the super cute pup with his baseball gear for more information.)

Based on these promotions, it is clear that Dallas Animal Services is looking to find as many animals new homes as possible. And hopefully it is working, as we love the idea of helping to inspire more adoptions by waiving fees and reducing the cost of adoption to just $1. Plus, with their already low adoption fees, it is clear that their goal is to find every animal that comes their way a forever home.
