Dana Carvey explains why he doesn’t have a pet during Secret Life of Pets 2 press tour

While doing press for Secret Life of Pets 2, some of the voice actors behind the characters opened up about their own pets. And Dana Carvey explained why he doesn’t have one.

Dana Carvey may be one of the stars of Secret Life of Pets 2 as the voice of Pops, but that doesn’t mean that the actor has a pet of his own. While doing an interview with People Magazine alongside co-stars Harrison Ford and Lake Bell, Carvey explained why he doesn’t have a dog, what he sees as a future plan to have one, and even reminisced about his childhood pups.

According to the actor, the reason he does not have a dog (or really any pet) at this point is because, “I would want it to be right with me, I just couldn’t leave it, the puppy dog eyes are too much for me to handle.” And this is a sentiment we completely understand. We hate leaving our own pup behind to go to work or visit family and friends.

But it also sounds like Dana Carvey may have plans for a dog later on, as he did say that in the future he wants to have “a mixed collie when I have a big beard when I’m on a ranch in Montana.” Basically at this point it sounds like Carvey is just waiting for the right time to have a dog of his own, as he clearly knows what he wants already.

However, while the actor may not have a pup in his life right now, he did grow up with them and he even talked about watching Neil Armstrong step foot on the moon with his dogs beside him. He explained that they were as excited as the rest of the family and according to Dana Carvey the family dogs “went ballistic” in celebration of the momentous occasion.

While it is sad to learn that the voice of Pops in Secret Life of Pets 2 does not have a dog to call his own, that doesn’t mean that it won’t happen at some point. And since we understand not only Carvey’s reasoning, but also the fact that he is still working and traveling too much to give a pup the attention it deserves, we support the actor for waiting to adopt a dog.
