Throughout Puppy Bowl XV, viewers got to see not only on-field game play, but also the story of each pup. And Gus Kenworthy even got involved to help one pup prepare for the big game.

Puppy Bowl XV is the perfect answer to the Super Bowl, especially for those of us not interested in watching football. During this year’s big game, not only did we get to watch all of the adoptable puppies in action on the field, but we also got to learn more about each of the rescue pups. And one pup in particular, got some special help from none other than Olympic silver medalist, Gus Kenworthy.

Kenworthy is a well-known animal lover, and has even helped rescue dogs from South Korean Dog Meat Farms. In fact, his current pup, Birdie, is a rescue from one of those farms, who has her own Instagram account.

However, for this year’s Puppy Bowl, the Olympian took the time to help the American Staffordshire terrier and chow chow mix, Sierra, to get ready for her time on the field. During the segment where we learned a bit more about this adoptable pup, which was in conjunction with New York’s Muddy Paws Rescue, where Sierra is from, we watched as Kenworthy took the time to focus on three of the main things this athletic pup would need for Puppy Bowl XV.

From working on her attention span and going over distractions, to seeing how Sierra would do around other dogs, the Olympian worked with the pup to make sure she would be game ready. In this behind-the-scenes look at how she prepared for the big game, we watched as Gus Kenworthy took Sierra for a walk in the city, tried to get her to leave the grass alone, and even gave her some love.

As Kenworthy explained in the clip, he wanted to make sure Sierra saved up her energy for the Puppy Bowl, and we think his advice worked. In fact, this pup might have been holding back with the Olympian, as she helped her team score more than once, and was even in the running for MVP, Most Valuable Puppy. As part of Team Ruff, this pup has shown the world that she can be a scene stealer.

Now, we don’t know about you, but we think Sierra had some excellent guidance from Gus Kenworthy. And she is definitely a winner in our book.
