Have you noticed that your cat is aiming for the stove for a midday nap? Are you curious about why your cat is skipping their bed and opting for a large appliance in your kitchen? Then you are not alone.
As cat owners, we know that cats do what they want. They are the kings and queens of their castle and that means accepting that sometimes they do things that make us scratch our head. But what about taking a nap on the stove? What makes our cats decide that this is the best place to hang out in their home?
We decided to ask for some expert insight to get to the bottom of the stove sleeping.
Why is our cat sleeping on the stove?
According to Dani Dominguez of SunBright Wellness, "Many cats are drawn to cozy and warm spots and the stove can be a perfect place for that." And this makes perfect sense. Cats love sunshine and warmth.
But, that's not all that Dominguez shared, as she also pointed out that there are certainly issues with this feline behavior. As she points out, "However, this can be obviously dangerous and to deter this behavior, provide alternative warm spots like a heated cat bed or blanket."
We also got another expert to answer this question for us. And thanks to Dr. Aimee Warner of Waggel, we got a little more insight into our cat's behavior. Specifically, she shared that, "stoves can be appealing because of the heat retention. Aside from the heat, the raised platform gives them a view and a sense of security. Contained spaces make cats feel comfortable. As this can be a potential risk for them, offer alternative warm spots where they can stay such as heated beds or cushions by the windowsill."
Honestly, all of this makes perfect sense and it has wanting to make sure our furry friends have warm spots to snooze in all year long. Hopefully, the stove won't be one of those spots.
