Should Snoopy get the live action treatment?

Now that it’s been confirmed that we are getting a Scooby-Doo live action Netflix series, we have to look at one of our other classic cartoon dog. Obviously, that is Snoopy himself. While Snoopy started as a comic strip, his popularity has grown in such a way that we have had a number of specials over the years.

Not only have we had specials on TV, but we’ve also had entire TV series dedicated to Snoopy, Woodstock, Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts family. But one thing we have never had is a live action series or movie. And we have to point out that even Garfield got a live action movie.

So with other iconic cartoon and comic characters getting the live action treatment, we decided to consider whether or not Snoopy needed the same. Does Snoopy need to be turned into a live action movie or TV series?

Honestly, I don’t know. I truly don’t know if what makes Snoopy so special would be lost if the characters were given the live action movie or series treatment. Even with so many iconic scenes and moments, jobs and hobbies, there is an innocence to Snoopy that I don’t think would translate well into a live action program.

Snoopy doesn’t need the live-action treatment (but we do want more of him on screen)

While Scooby Doo definitely has an innocence about him, he also has no problem getting into mischief alongside of his friends. And while Snoopy might have no problem with a little bit of mischief, his mischief isn’t crime solving or anything that we can picture in a live action format.

We don’t need a live action, Great Pumpkin caper, and we don’t need a Thanksgiving or a Christmas special done as a live action. I think Snoopy and his friends are perfect the way they are, but we do want more of them. It would be nice to get another Snoopy series. It would be nice to get another series featuring Charlie Brown and all of their friends. It just doesn’t need to be live action.

Honestly, my real hope is that having a live action Scooby-Doo series will inspire more interest in some of our classic and iconic cartoon characters. Maybe it will inspire people to go back to the things they grew up with and want to re-explore them. And if that means rebooting characters like Snoopy, Astro from the Jetsons, and other iconic dogs and cats, then I am definitely here for that.
