Scooby-Doo, where are you? Well it sounds like he is going to be on Netflix!

According to news that dropped on March 26, it seems that we have some exciting news when it comes to Scooby-Doo and the rest of Mystery, Inc. (finally). Netflix has ordered an eight episode live-action modern take on how Scooby-Doo and his friends first met and came together as a team.

In a post shared by Netflix on social media, we learned that this new series will actually be the origin story of this team and these friends. In the post shared to X (formerly Twitter), they shared this brief synopsis along with an image of the front page of a script for the first episode. The synopsis reads:

"In this modern reimagining, old friends Shaggy and Daphne team up at summer camp with scientific townie Velma and the strange but handsome Fred to solve the mystery of a lonely lost Great Dane puppy — who may have witnessed a supernatural murder."

Netflix is giving us a live-action Scooby-Doo origin story

According to Variety, the news that a series was being developed was first reported back in April of 2024. And just short of one year later, we finally know that the series has been ordered and exactly how many episodes we can expect.

Obviously, this is not the first time we have had a live action Scooby-Doo, as we have had two live-action movies back in 2002 and 2004. But it has been a long time since then and we are here for an actual origin series. It feels like a great way to reintroduce the character to a whole new audience, while also potentially giving longtime fans something new to love.

Another important thing to note is that this is not the first time that Netflix has given the live action treatment to popular animated characters. So they have already set a precedent for this and done it well. So hopefully, the same holds true for Scooby-Doo.

At this point, we do not know when this series will arrive on Netflix. And we do not know who will be playing any of these characters. Honestly, we can't wait to learn more about this Scooby-Doo origin series and find out how a modern take on these characters shakes things up.

Of course, the most important part of all of this is Scooby himself. And we can't wait to meet our new Scooby-Doo. If we really get a puppy Great Dane, we are all in!
