Jellystone! was released in 2021 but is the premiere still as good four years later?

For my fellow Hanna-Barbera fans, you might be craving some of those cartoons we know and love which is where Jellystone! comes in. Released in 2021, the series was created by C.H. Greenblatt and it features all the different Hanna-Barbera characters we know and love.

Since the show is titled Jellystone!, it's a given that the series is going to focus on Yogi Bear, Boo Boo and Cindy Bear. However, the series focuses on other forgotten and beloved Hanna-Barbera characters as well.

Whether you grew up with these characters or just love the work of C.H. Greenblatt, it's good to know that Jellystone! exists. The other good thing is that HBO hasn't pulled it off its screening platform just yet which isn't always a guarantee.

Since its premiere in 2021, the series has released 3 seasons with the latter half of season 3 premiering in March 2025. However, we're here to take it back and revisit the premiere of the series and see if it's a solid pick for my fellow Hanna-Barbera fans.

Is the season 1 premiere of Jellystone! a stream or a skip?

Oddly enough, the first episode begins with Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy. The two are at the hospital, trying to cheer people up. However, things don't go exactly right as the patient ends up dealing with some medical trauma. Eventually, Yogi, Cindy and Boo Boo have to come in and make sure she's alright while also removing Augie Doggie.

In doing some research, I also found that Augie Doggie was originally a boy but ended up being changed into a girl for Jellystone! While it didn't tamper with my enjoyment, it was something worth noting if you remember the character differently. In addition to that, Huckleberry Hound is introduced as the mayor of Jellystone, and we also see Top Cat appear in the first episode.

While some characters don't have a speaking role in the first episode, it's clear we're going to get more from them in future episodes. Ultimately, the series does exactly what it sets out to which is make a modern Hanna-Barbera series. As mentioned, the focus is on Yogi, Cindy and Boo Boo which makes sense due to the show's title.

Since the show now has 3 seasons under its belt, I'm sure the writers have given love to more of the classic Hanna-Barbera cats and dogs we love. While it might not be the same treatment these characters got as classic cartoons, it's still a fun alternative.

Seasons 1-3 of Jellystone! are currently streaming on Max.
