Fans of Scooby-Doo come in all shapes, sizes, and ages. Whether you were there for the first episode of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! or watched one of the direct-to-video movies, everyone has a starting point.
That's why it's so great to go back and watch some of the Scooby-Doo shows, specials or movies you haven't seen. It's even better as Tubi added 3 Scooby-Doo specials to its platform and who doesn't love a little free TV?
Of all the specials, this was the one I knew the least about, and given that it came out in 1979, it makes sense. Given that it marked the 10th anniversary of Scooby-Doo, it wouldn't make sense to show it all the time. However, it is one that I can see people, liking and wanting to revisit.
Scooby-Doo Goes Hollywood follows a unique formula as we see Shaggy and Scooby as actors on the series. Given how beloved Scooby is, Shaggy convinces him that he should be asking for more and wanting more, which Scooby takes to heart.
Scooby-Doo Goes Hollywood is a ode to our favorite famous canine.
As you can see, the plot is a little different than what we're used to. The cool thing is that Scooby-Doo decides to try to pitch himself to the studio in different roles. These are clearly parodies of popular shows of the time including Charlie's Angels, Happy Days, and How The West Was Won to name a few which might not translate to audiences today.
Regardless, it's so fun to see Scooby take on these different roles and end up being his fun and goofy self. If you couldn't figure it out, the whole point was to celebrate Scooby-Doo and show why he's such a beloved character. Eventually, the rest of the gang, excluding Shaggy, try to trick Scooby-Doo into coming back, but it doesn't work.
Eventually, Scooby realizes that his role as a Saturday Morning cartoon star is too good to pass up, and he decides to do it for the kids and the fans. It's such an adorable moment at the very end and it shows the everlasting support Scooby-Doo still has. This is a special I'd love to see get a modern revival or a twist on it, so fingers crossed we'll end up getting a Scooby-Doo Goes Hollywood take two.
