If there's one thing we can count on from the Scooby-Doo franchise, it's to dog on Scrappy-Doo, and for some reason, it's been a mainstay for decades.

While the Scooby-Doo franchise has been full of characters, no one has gotten as much vitriol as Scrappy-Doo. For those who don't remember or weren't born yet, Scrappy-Doo was first introduced in 1979 and since then, has been a thorn in a lot of Scooby fans' sides.

Even though the character could be annoying, most of us chalked it up to him being a kid and trying to be the center of attention. Regardless of that, the franchise as a whole has type-casted him as a go-to villian in a lot of its projects which works sometimes but not always.

If we're talking about the Scooby-Doo live-action film, that one worked amazingly. Then for Scooby Apocalypse, it was fine but not the best. Now with Velma using it a third time, are we finally ready for a new take on Scrappy-Doo?

When will we get a fresh take on Scrappy-Doo?

Let me start by saying that I was one of those fans who was very neutral about Scrappy-Doo. He was never going to be my favorite character but I didn't hate him. While he did have some funny lines, his presence wasn't something that bothered me. However, I can see why fans got tired of him as he could be annoying at times.

Given the franchise's lack of Scrappy in recent years, I do think it's finally time for us to get a fresh take on Scrappy-Doo. It feels like there's been enough time for the franchise where they could reintroduce him in a better way. Sometimes, a little bit of time away can give a fresh perspective and I mean that in terms of the franchise and the fandom.

For the franchise, they could find a new way to introduce him or a way to add him without making him be obnoxious. The franchise has changed so much since his last appearance so I have no doubt that new writers and creators could do him justice. That could also mean a new Scooby-Doo project which we'll never complain about.

As for those of us in the Scooby-Doo fandom, we all loved Scrappy's turn in the live-action Scooby-Doo film. However, some Scooby-Doo fan pages have talked about how he deserves a second-chance at being a good character. Frankly, there's so much about him we don't know about and while he wouldn't have to be the main character, we could learn more.

Even if you're not in the mood for more Scrappy, he certainly has his fans out there and this constant villainization can get a bit old. While it doesn't have to be anything massive, it's time to see what these new creators and writers can do for him. While it feels like a pipe dream, maybe some changes at Warner Brothers will make that possible.
