Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! is a classic and incredibly beloved cartoon series. That's why it was interesting to see Netflix announcing a live-action series.

According to an article shared by Deadline, Scooby-Doo! The Live-Action Series was acquired by Netflix. The production is being helmed by Greg Berlanti of Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television.

For those who don't know, Greg Berlanti created and helped develop some iconic series such as Supergirl, You and Superman & Lois. In addition, the article also shared that it's being: "Written by Josh Appelbaum & Scott Rosenberg (Cowboy Bebop) based on characters created by Hanna-Barbera, Scooby-Doo! is a live-action update of the popular cartoon." As you can see, Netflix already has a lot riding on this project.

With a live-action project like this, the one question that comes to mind is if it will end up like Riverdale or if will we be getting a live-action Scooby-Doo like the film.

Will Scooby-Doo get the Riverdale treatment on Netflix?

Let me start by saying that I'm a huge Scooby-Doo fan so everything I say is out of love for the franchise. However, I do think Scooby-Doo is best when it's a little goofier and more about having fun and solving mysteries. That's not to say that a bit of darkness wouldn't make Scooby-Doo even better as evidenced by all the love for Mystery Incorporated.

Even with all the love for Mystery Incorporated, a live-action Scooby-Doo on Netflix doesn't need to get as wild and absurd as Riverdale. Instead, the mystery element could be made a bit grittier without losing the charm of the original show. Thankfully, there is plenty of Scooby-Doo lore out there so the series could delve into any of these or create a new one.

Ultimately, I think a live-action Scooby-Doo would do best if it kept to its roots while also not being afraid to push the envelope. You're dealing with vast expectations from both people who grew up with Scooby-Doo and also have to appeal to audiences who haven't watched the show before. All I can say is that I don't envy the person who is writing this series and can only hope that this live-action Scooby series is as good as the films.

Either way, I'm looking forward to it and I hope that we don't see anything as absurd as the final season of Riverdale. Thankfully, Riverdale feels like an outlier but we'll see if Netflix can handle Scooby better than the CW did. Frankly, I'm just hoping we end up seeing this series come to fruition as Warner Brothers has made a lot of questionable decisions so I hope we do end up seeing this new live-action Scooby-Doo.
