Scooby-Doo is a franchise with a long and storied history. Whether you were introduced to Scooby-Doo via Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! or even, Be Cool Scooby-Doo, everyone has a journey.
No matter when you started your Scooby journey, I'm sure none of us imagined we'd be seeing a Scooby anime called Go-Go Mystery Machine. Either way, it's here now and there's been plenty of buzz about it.
Given that Warner Brothers is currently influx now, this announcement seems promising but we know what happened with Scooby-Doo! and the Mystery Pups. Regardless, I'm trying to be hopeful and with that hope, I was thinking about what style we might be getting in a new Scooby series.
In looking back at the previous two, there was Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? which was a similar style to The New Scooby-Doo Movies as it featured a celebrity guest solving a mystery with the gang. The one before that was Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! which was more on the silly than spooky.
Which route will Go-Go Mystery Machine go down?
If you're a Scooby fan, then you're probably a fan of Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated and if you're not, then do yourself a favor and watch it. This is known as one of the best Scooby-Doo series out there and rightfully so. It plays into the old gags and tropes of the other Scooby series while also bringing an eerie and slightly serious element to the beloved Scooby gang.
The thing I find most interesting about Mystery Incorporated is its art style as it's pretty close to an anime art style. Of course, that was my first thought when I heard the announcement about Go-Go Mystery Machine. However, after seeing the description, it doesn't seem like it will be going down the Mystery Incorporated route.
Instead, it's likely that we'll be getting a more comedic take on Scooby-Doo. There's nothing wrong with that, but it does feel like fans are wanting something more. Frankly, the entire Velma series gave Scooby fans a lot of things they don't want from a "Scooby series." Then again, how can a Scooby series be called that if Scooby isn't actually present? Of course, we've touched on that before.
Either way, it feels like Go-Go Mystery Machine is going to be a more kid-friendly version of Scooby and honestly, that's usually how it goes. Then again, I won't judge this show too much and will give it a fair shot when it's released. No matter what style we get from this series, Go-Go Mystery Machine could be a nice reset for the franchise which is all we can really ask for.
