Scooby-Doo: When is the next Scooby-Doo project coming out?
There are very few franchises that I love as much as Scooby-Doo. On the whole, the franchise has been around for decades and it's still one with more and more fans every year.
Given everything going on with Warner Brothers though, things aren't looking promising. While this hasn't been exclusive to Scooby-Doo, all of our favorite and beloved franchises have been suffering because of these moves.
As frustrating and sad as it is, it feels even more annoying seeing it happen to Scooby-Doo. Scooby and his friends have been around for decades and right now, it does feel like the lack of Scooby content is just impossible to ignore.
Since things with Warner Brothers are so up in the air right now, it's unclear when we'll be getting our next installment in the Scooby-Doo franchise.
When will Warner Bros gift us with another Scooby-Doo project?
Before getting into the next Scooby-Doo project, let's take a look back at some of the most recent releases. First of all, we are not counting Velma because obviously Scooby-Doo isn't in the show and that should never be considered part of the Scooby-Doo canon. That might seem harsh, but it's true.
Anyway, the last official Scooby-Doo series to come out was Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? which was a more modern take on The New Scooby-Doo Movies. Essentially, Scooby and the gang would meet up with a famous celebrity they happen to know. The show ran for 52 episodes and overall was a decent Scooby show but not among the top-tier of Scooby series.
Looking at the last Scooby-Doo direct-to-video film was Scooby-Doo! and Krypto, Too! which was a crossover with Krypto. This one was almost trashed by Warner Brothers before it was eventually released in 2023. Upon its release, it almost immediately ended up on Max so it could be streamed along with the other Scooby-Doo movies.
As you can see, it's been almost a year since a Scooby-Doo direct-to-video film was released and 3 years since Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? wrapped up. While there have been some up and down years for the Scooby franchise, this era feels like something entirely different as we're not even getting any news.
Of course, all of us know about the upcoming Scooby-Doo live-action series from Netflix, but that doesn't show love to some of the great voice actors. While Matthew Lillard has talked about an upcoming project, he didn't say what it was. Could it be another TV series or another direct-to-video film? It could even be a Scooby-Doo podcast or an audiobook.
Either way, it's sad to see the sheer lack of Scooby-Doo content because Warner Brothers can't seem to get their act together. Hopefully we'll get something else before the new live-action Scooby series but until then, there are still plenty of great Scooby shows and movies to rewatch.
