“The Scarab Lives!” is a criminally underrated Scooby-Doo episode
One of the most polarizing characters in media is easily Scrappy-Doo. As Scooby-Doo's nephew, he seems to get the brunt of the hate directed towards the franchise aside from Velma.
No one imagined just how bad Velma was and the sheer amount of hate it would get. If anything, it proved that Scrappy-Doo is not that bad. He was just annoying and as Scooby-Doo's nephew, it does make sense.
He's still a puppy and hasn't matured at least in comparison to Scooby. That's why I not only wanted to show some love to Scrappy but talk about his first appearance and why it's such an underrated episode.
Scrappy was introduced in Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo as Scooby's nephew and from the very start, he hasn't been shy about wanting to showcase how tough he is. It's a fun way to introduce his character and show just how different he is from his uncle.
"The Scarab Lives!" is such an underrated Scooby-Doo episode.
There are certain Scooby-Doo episodes we all love and remember watching yet no one seems to talk about "The Scarab Lives!" As part of my previous Scooby-Doo project, I watched the first episode of every single existing Scooby-Doo series and this one was on the list.
As far as plots go, it's such a fun one as the Blue Scarab is Scooby and Scrappy's favorite comic book superhero. Things take a turn when they find out the Blue Scarab is alive and is enacting events from the comic book that hasn't been published yet. There are only so many people who can be terrorizing Jerry Sloan, the writer and cartoonist of the series. Overall, it's a pretty solid mystery and one that I wish more people were talking about.
The animation is a product of its time, yet that's part of the charm. Additionally, it has that trademark Scooby humor we've come to know and love. The good news is that if you're looking to watch, the episode along with the entire series it is available to stream on Max. While it might not be your new favorite Scooby series, it's worth checking out.
