There are certain franchises that are simply timeless and one of those is Peanuts. Despite celebrating being around for 75 years, there is no shortage of Peanuts fans.
Whether you grew up with the Charlie Brown holiday specials, have a love for Snoopy, or enjoy the comic strip, Peanuts are every bit as relevant now as it's ever been. That's why I wanted to show off some of the things planned for the Peanuts gang at San Diego Comic-Con.
On Thursday, July 25th at 10 am, there will be a panel discussion called "The History of Peanuts in Animation." Taking place in Room 5AB, the panel will feature some old and new faces when it comes to the Peanuts franchise. Guests will include Todd Barbee who was the voice of Charlie Brown in A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, Jason Mendelson who is the CEO and producer of Lee Mendelson Film Productions, and a recent addition to the gang: Rob Boutilier who is the showrunner for Camp Snoopy.
Those three will be joined by Paige Braddock who is "chief creative officer, Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates and an EP on new Apple TV+ Peanuts content," and Stephanie Betts who is also an EP on new Apple TV+ Peanuts content along with being an EVP, content creation and WildBrain. Last but not least, the panel is welcoming Caleb Bellavance who voiced Franklin in Welcome Home Franklin which is another mesh of the old and new.
There is plenty of fun for Peanuts fans at San Diego Comic-Con 2024.
SDCC's unofficial blog goes on to share that there is a Peanuts pop-up shop being held at 200 J. Street from 10 am to 6 pm daily. You can get exclusive merchandise and even see an episode or two of Camp Snoopy. Not only that but the shop is paying homage to Charles Schulz, Lee Mendelson, and Bill Melendez, the latter of whom worked together to produce a lot of the iconic Peanuts films we've come to know and love. Lastly, it's going to show love to Vince Guaraldi and his music as it's such a huge part of the Peanuts films.
The biggest item to note is that San Diego Comic-Con is going to be full of Peanuts merchandise to purchase. At Booth #1635, there will be plushies, pens, trading cards, mugs, t-shirts and so much more. If you're headed to SDCC, I'm sure you're already prepared to spend a lot on merch and what better way to do it than grab something with Snoopy on or it or your favorite Peanuts character?
The Peanuts franchise only celebrates its 75th anniversary once so it's awesome to see San Diego Comic-Con showing the franchise so much love. Plus we can hope that the panel gives us more insights into what's up next from Apple TV and Peanuts' partnership. Either way, it's clear SDCC is showing some love to Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gang.
