On May 19, The Garfield Movie (2024) premiered in Los Angeles with an Orange Carpet that saw Cecily Strong walking the carpet with some senior dogs waiting for their forever homes. The actress, who worked with Hill's Pet Nutrition to bring awareness to the needs of Senior animals, and especially senior animals in rescues and shelters, is herself a senior dog mom.
While many of us feel a sense of fear and sadness over our dogs (and cats) getting older, it is something that we all do. And if we are caring for our pets properly, then age is not something to be worried about, but rather something to celebrate.
We were on the Orange Carpet in L.A. to experience the premiere of The Garfield Movie, and had the opportunity to actually chat with Cecily Strong about her dog and working with Hill's Pet Nutrition. And one thing she pointed out about her Orange Carpet canine companions, was that they were specifically "all black dogs and these are all dogs that can be adopted now." She also reminded people that both "senior dogs and black dogs have a harder time getting adopted."
And even talking about her own senior dog, Strong pointed out that it is her "own anxiety" that she struggles with when it comes to her dog getting older. "I think it's probably my own anxiety. She's doing fine. You know, she's like, this is great, I've got it. She's just as happy."
Even talking about the campaign with Hill's, Cecily Strong pointed out that the brand is trying to make it easier on people by "taking the anxiety for people out of adopting senior dogs or owning senior dogs." And we love that, because it can be challenging to be a dog owner in general, and this is especially true as dogs get older.
Hill's Pet Nutrition is doing their part to help senior pets live their best lives
For years, Hill's Pet Nutrition has been a leader in providing our pets with the essentials they need to be healthy and happy. And whether we need to feed them prescription food, a specialty diet, or just the right foods based on their age, the brand has everything we need for both cats and dogs. But we also love that the brand is all about giving back as well.
As part of their commitment to all pets, Hill's Pet Nutrition is working to help older animals find their forever homes. And they are doing that by working with PetSmart Charities to make it happen. So what does this mean? Well, according to the press email we received, "Hill's will donate up to $100,000 to PetSmart Charities to cover a portion of adoption fees for every pet adopted at PetSmart Adoption Centers from May 20-26," just in time for the nationwide release of The Garfield Movie.
