There is something undeniably fun about the Peanuts franchise. Whether you discovered them through the comic strip or their holiday specials, everyone has a memory of seeing the Peanuts somewhere.
One thing the Peanuts franchise has done is focus on animation. While others are looking to get into a new medium, Snoopy and the gang have stayed animated. With many other fandoms going the live-action route, it makes you wonder about Charlie Brown and his friends.
The big question is whether we need a live-action Peanuts movie with Snoopy, Woodstock, Charlie Brown, and the rest of the Peanuts gang. In this writer's opinion, the answer is simple, and it's no. There is absolutely no reason why we need to have a live-action movie of the Peanuts. While there are plenty of reasons to support that, we're only going to talk about a few.
The major reason I don't want or think we'll get a Peanuts live-action film is that there's no one asking for it. While some franchises get the occasional post or hopes from fans, there hasn't been any chatter or suggestion of making a live-action Peanuts film. It just doesn't seem like a topic fans consider when thinking of Peanuts.
Snoopy and his friends have always thrived in animation.
Second, it doesn't seem like the smartest idea, given just how well Peanuts and animation work together. Animation leaves the door wide open for so many different ideas, stunts, and things you'd never see attempted in live-action. The fact that we never see the adults' faces is one thing, and I doubt a lot of actors would want to sign on to a live-action project where we don't hear what they're saying.
Lastly, the Peanuts were originally a comic strip, so why would you want to make them into a live-action property? Snoopy, Charlie Brown, and the rest of the Peanuts gang are perfect just the way they are. There are already so many great animated Peanuts specials that have aged beautifully, so why would you want to add something new to the conversation?
While changing formats can be beneficial for some franchises, a live-action Peanuts movie isn't necessary and wouldn't fare nearly as well as its animated counterparts. Hopefully, we don't hear any rumblings of it from Apple, but right now, it seems like Peanuts and animation are a beneficial relationship we can continue to enjoy.
