Scooby-Doo has had some downright fun characters and ones who left a lasting impression, like Scrappy-Doo. More modern Scooby-Doo fans might not even recognize him.
For those who grew up with Scooby-Doo and all the different shows and movies, you're likely familiar with Scrappy-Doo. If you aren't, he's Scooby-Doo's nephew and a puppy. While he did have his moments, he is a character some loved while others absolutely couldn't stand him.
However, we haven't seen Scrappy-Doo since his appearance in the 2002 live-action Scooby-Doo film. I know that he was featured in Velma in some capacity but I don't count that as a Scooby-Doo series since Scooby-Doo wasn't actually in it.
With that being said, it's been over 20 years since the last appearance of Scrappy-Doo, so I think more than enough time has passed for him to get a redemption arc or for him to be introduced to a new generation of Scooby-Doo fans.
Scrappy-Doo deserves his moment in the sun
In looking back at Scrappy-Doo's history, he's been featured in a handful of different shows, including Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo, The New Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo Show, and The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo. Since then, it's basically been nothing from Scrappy unless the franchise is poking fun at him or making him the butt of the joke. While it was funny the first time, it's really starting to get old.
With that being said, I think there has been enough time between his last appearance and now for him to make his triumphant return. If anything, it might be a good test to see if Scrappy ends up getting the love many think he deserves. Of all the Scooby-Doo characters, he's the one who has gotten the most vitriol, while we all need to be putting our energy into making sure another Velma-esque series exists.
I think it would be fun to see Scrappy incorporated into a plotline where he isn't the villain, which has been the case as of late. Seeing him as a revamped and new character is exactly what he needs. All we can hope for is that a Scrappy project features good writers and talented people who understand what Scooby-Doo fans want. We don't mind Scrappy, but we don't need him as the main attraction when the show is focused on Scooby-Doo and his group of friends.
Maybe Netflix will surprise us and give us a Scrappy-Doo moment. Either way, we can only hope that Scrappy-Doo gets his chance to shine.
