When it comes to picking a name for your new pet, you have a few different options and a seasonal pick is always a winner. With Halloween right around the corner, why not go with a horror movie character name?

Horror movies are such a huge part of pop culture and there are so many iconic characters, both old and new. Whether you're a newbie or have been watching horror flicks for decades, there is no shortage of characters to use as your inspiration.

If you're lucky, your new pet will be the opposite of their namesake and instead, be loving and snuggly which is what we're always hoping for. Sometimes though, it can be a bit of a challenge and let's just say that these characters know a thing or two about that.

Of course, if you have any suggestions, you'll have to share them with us. If anything, it will inspire us even more.

Six horror movie characters to name your newest pet after

1. For the classic fan: Myers

When one thinks of an iconic horror movie character, most of us picture Michael Myers. As the jumpsuit-sporting, knife-wielding killer, Michael Myers has been terrorizing Haddonfield for decades. We still don't know if his reign has ended. Whether you've watched all of the movies or only one, there is no denying this is a fun name and a very unique one so it makes for a fun story to share.

2. For the newbie horror lover: Art

No one is more iconic in horror right now than Art the Clown. Terrifier 3 is a movie that's still being talked about and his reign doesn't seem to be ending anytime soon. Given that Art doesn't talk and your new pet can't either, this seems appropriate. Of course, we can only hope that your newest family member isn't as unhinged as Art. Either way, it's short and simple and popular, making it an easy addition to this list.

3. For the family-friendly crew: Coraline

Some might argue Coraline's merits as a horror movie, but it's unsettling and downright chilling at times. Honestly, if you don't consider this one a horror movie, I'm worried. This is a popular one that people revisit this time of year and it's such a unique name to boot. No doubt someone's going to share their thoughts on the movie or try to sew buttons into your cat's eyes. Wait, no that's just in the movie but you never know.

4. For the literary horror lover: Church

This one is a bit of a two-fold pick as it can work for both horror book readers and horror movie lovers and that's Church. If you recall, this is the cat's name in Pet Sematary by Stephen King. Whether you read the source material from King or watched the 1989 film, Church was such an impactful character in the film. However, we can only hope that you decide to stay away from the local Pet Sematary if you use this name.

5. For female rage fans: Pearl

This is more of a 2-part option for new pet moms and dads and that's the characters played by Mia Goth in the X film series. Goth plays both Pearl and Maxine in the films with her first appearance being in X which is then followed up by Pearl and lastly, Maxxxine. You could go with Pearl, Maxine or even, Mia. Honestly, all of those names would be great and are unique enough that non-horror fans would have no idea these were featured in the X series.

6. For the horror comedy fans: Gizmo

Last, but not least, we're ending with a family-friendly pick and that's Gremlins. Given that Gremlins are popular again now, it had to be done. For those who have watched the cult classic film, Gizmo is Billy's mogwai in the film and he's even the star of the Max series, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai so it's a solid pick. While it might not connect with everyone, Gremlins fans will appreciate it and that's all that matters.

There are truly so many great horror movie characters out there but these are some that come to mind with the Halloween season vastly approaching. Be sure to let us know which character you'd name your next pet after!
