We’ve all seen those crazy videos on YouTube of people’s cars getting stuck on train tracks and them making it away from the scene just in the nick of time. But what if you saw a sweet and innocent dog on an active train track? Would you rescue him or her?

That’s exactly what this angel of a human did when saw a dog trapped, unable to tell how he was stuck on there. How the pup was found and rescued is absolutely heartbreaking.

Would you help rescue a dog stuck to an active train track? I certainly would!

Meet Lucky. Lucky is a Yellow Lab and thank God for the good samaritan who helped him stay lucky on this seemingly unlucky day for him.

Recently the SAACS (City of San Antonio Animal Care Services) got a call from an innocent bystander saying that there was a dog seemingly trapped on an active train track. He couldn’t tell how the dog had gotten there or what exactly the situation was but they knew that given that it was an active train track and not an abandoned one, that something just had to be done…quickly.

An animal control officer, Officer Edwards, was called onto the scene and noticed that Lucky’s leash was somehow secured by a nail on the tracks which seemingly began to tighten around his neck every time that he tried to pull away from it. When Officer Edwards first arrived on the scene, he could tell that Lucky was super skittish and not wanting to trust him or anyone for that matter. And can we really blame him for that? We don’t know what he previously went through!

Eventually, though, Officer Edwards was able to gain Lucky’s trust and was actually able to rescue him with a humane catch pole. Once Lucky was in Officer Edwards’ arms, they heard a train coming by and before they had even made it back to the Animal Control truck/transport vehicle, it zoomed right on past them. Because Officer Edwards acted so quickly and professionally, Lucky’s life was not only saved, but for Lucky himself, his brand new life was just getting started!

The team of staff members over at the SAACS was more than happy to welcome Lucky in post-heroic rescue. Within just minutes of posting all about him and his story, an influx, abundance, whatever you wanna call it of inquiries about him were totally and completely flooding the organization! Once Lucky was in his own kennel with a soft place to lay his head down at night, he seemed much more ready to become more friendly with other people. He seemed ready to give all of the love that he was just waiting to give to a human family that actually wanted him.

One person in particular, Mr. C., was really interested in seeing/meeting with Lucky. After spending nearly 30 minutes with him, he just instantly knew that Lucky was going to fit in just perfectly with him and his family. After his scheduled appointment to meet Lucky, just a few days later, Lucky’s adoption was official and finalized and he was ready to go home with/to Mr. C! Even though Lucky’s name fit him nearly perfectly, Mr. C decided to rename him Duke and one thing is for sure: Duke is fitting in just fine and getting/giving all of the love and more that he so deserves!

That’s a wrap on how Lucky/Duke was heroically rescued! We are so beyond blessed and thankful for people like Officer Edwards – there are still good people in the world out there! What was your favorite part of this story? Would you have done the most that you possibly could?
