When it comes to popular dog breeds we often think of the Labrador Retriever (31 years in the number one spot) and even this year’s most popular breed, the French Bulldog. But what is the most popular dog breed in the state of Massachusetts?

Recently, we revealed the most popular dog breed in the capital of Massachusetts (and somehow we aren’t surprised to see it is also the most popular breed of the year) and now we are looking at the most popular breeds for the whole state.

This information came to us by way of a press email from the Dog Advisory Council, which used information from both the American Kennel Club and Google searches in the state of Massachusetts. So what were they able to determine in terms of the state’s most popular breed of dog?

The top five dog breeds in the state of Massachusetts based on Google searches

  • 5. The Boxer – With 18,100 Google searches per month this is the fifth most popular breed in the state.
  • 4. French Bulldog (Also approximately 18,100 searches)
  • 3. Golden Retriever (Another breed with 18,100 searches per month)
  • 2. Shiba Inu (Yes, this was also a breed with 18,100 searches per month)
  • 1. The Cane Corso – This breed had a whopping 22,200 searches per month in the state of Massachusetts. And it seems that this breed is actually the most searched breed in 46 states including Connecticut and Florida!

Honestly, all three of the top dog breeds in Massachusetts are considered to be very affectionate when it comes to their families. And while the Cane Corso might seem like an intimidating breed considering their size, these pups are very eager to please. (That being said they are protective and they make great guard dogs.)

And since they made the second spot on the list, we have to talk about the Shiba Inu too. These pups are also great guard dogs as they are very vigilant as well. However, just like the Cane Corso, they are also very affectionate dogs when it comes to their families.

We love all dogs, but we find it fascinating to see which breeds seem to be the most popular in the state of Massachusetts. And we want to know what you think. Are you surprised by this list of the top five dog breeds in the state?
