Disney has had its fair share of iconic cats. One of the most iconic cat movies from Disney is easily The Aristocats.

As far as Disney movies go, it’s definitely more on the underrated side. However, we have something to look forward to as there is going to be a live-action/hybrid version coming very soon.

The twist is that this time, Questlove will be directing this upcoming production from Disney. In the Deadline article, it was also shared that he will be an executive producer and of course, end up looking over the music. As talented as he is, that shouldn’t come as any surprise and honestly, I have a lot of hope for this one.

At this point, there is no release date attached to this project, but with some of the recent Disney live-action offerings, we can only cross our fingers for what we’ll see from a reimagining of The Aristocats.

Disney is finally giving The Aristocats its time to shine.

As I said, I feel like The Aristocats is such an underrated Disney movie. Maybe it’s because the film came out in the 1970s and does have a slightly different tone to it. It’s also on the shorter side with a runtime of less than an hour and a half. Regardless, the cats from the film but especially Marie became fixtures of their very own.

That’s why I’m so interested to see Questlove’s take on it. He’s such a great musician and person in general that he’ll make the story his own without losing what made it great. Considering how big of a role music plays in the story, I’m excited to see what type of music the film features this time around.

While most of Disney’s live-action reimaginings have been lackluster, it does feel like the company is reaching a turning point. They’re looking for people who actually want to tell the story and not make it into a shell of the original. I suppose we’ll see when the new live-action Little Mermaid hits theaters this year.

However, if that does well, there’s no reason to believe The Aristocats won’t follow the same path and end up being amazing. The original is such a nostalgic favorite of mine so I’m hoping Questlove will honor the original while still making it his own. Considering his track record though, I have high hopes.
