We are back on Betty watch here at Dog O’Day. And in episode eight, we start off with a murder that ends up hitting very close to home for Will Trent. Unfortunately, in the course of investigating the murder Will and Faith end up stopping a boy who ends up having a seizure on camera. And yes, that means trouble.
But even with the potential for trouble on the horizon for Will after what could be seen as “police brutality,” there is still a murder that needs to be solved. And based on findings of the ME, it sounds like a hunter was involved in this murder. So while they tried to make it look like a suicide, this was definitely murder. And luckily for the victim, Will Trent is on the case.
In a scene that is both emotional and slightly heartbreaking, we see the ghost of the victim seemingly talking to Will Trent as he talks through his notes on his tape recorder. In that moment we learn the significance of the episode title “Two Hundred Dollars and a Bus Pass.” It turns out that when you turn 18 and are let loose from the system that’s all they give you. And since the victim is much like Will, and was in the system, that’s all she got to start the next portion of her life.
Will Trent solves a murder that hits close to home
With multiple suspects and one person who seems to be very guilty, it sounds like someone is trying to make other people take the fall for murder. But, when their primary suspect apparently kills himself, it doesn’t seem like the case is truly solved. And that’s why Will Trent is who he is. He is not going to rest until he has actually found the killer.
In the end, it turns out that the person who was set up to look like the murderer was not. Instead, it was one of the people working in the lab trying to make extra money. And when it turns out that the person who was helping her make that money want it out, she knew that it would ruin everything.
It’s not until the final scene that we get to actually get some Betty time in this episode. It’s dinner at Will’s house and not only is he there with Nico and Angie, but of course we get an adorable little moment with Betty. In a scene that lets them all honor the victim, we get to see a warmer side of Will. Not only does he take the time to honor someone else who was in the system, but it’s also nice to see that he is cooking for the family that he has created. And while Betty wasn’t able to enjoy the same dinner, it’s clear that he’ll make sure she’s taken care of.
Although we are all about the dog moments in Will Trent, there is something to be said for having that be the final scene. It’s a reminder that after a long day of work, Will has something to come home to. Whether we are talking about his dog or the family that he is building for himself, he is creating a home.
